How many points are you playing and what is he bringing besides the Balrog?
It all depends on the scenario obviously, but your best bet is to feed the Balrog one model per turn and try to break him ASAP. With the Balrog weighing in at a solid 400 points, you're should to outnumber him. I'd suggest Saruman the White and perhaps even Gandalf the Grey as secondary Wizard, allied with Erebor. Try to transfix the Balrog. It isn't easy since the Balrog has 10 Will and is Resistant to Magic, but if you manage to Immobilise him, you should be able to wear him down. Khazâd Guard are especially useful for this, as they are able to wound the Balrog on 5/3's when striking two-handed, and they don't have to take a courage test to charge the Balrog. A Dwarf Ballista is also a good choice, but you'll need an Engineer Captain, and perhaps Superior Construction. The Ballista is probably your best bet, wounding the Balrog on a 4+ and causing 5 wounds if you hit him.
Depending on how many points you play and what else he takes, I'd take the following to counter the Balrog:
Saruman the White
Dwarf Ballista with Dwarf Engineer Captain
10 Khazâd Guard
Your Engineer Captain can be the hero for your Dwarven contingent. Of course, this selection of troops is just to counter the Balrog, with the Ballista taking shots and Saruman trying to Immobilise/Command the Balrog. Once Transfixed, it's up to the Khazâds to finish the (hopefully) wounded Balrog.
Good luck.
