Alternative Rules?

Postby Sire Brenshar » Sun Feb 07, 2010 7:02 pm

Having read a lot about how the supposed end of LOTR SBG/WOTR and of how the stats for new models are slowly becoming unbalanced I have decided to raise a topic to see if anbody is intrested in oneday perhaps starting to write an alternative set of rules for the GW LOTR range, providing one of the above happens/becomes too problematic.
I'm looking for opinions and thoughts, not actual new rules at the moment.

Thanks! And may the Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game live 1000 years! :D

Could be a good idea, be aware that it would take about 5 years to write new rules for everything

I really don't think an entire new rule set is necessary. The rules for SBG are excellent, I think. It's just that the profiles for some models (Shagrat War Leader, Mahud, Black Guard etc etc) are too strong. Most of it is still fairly balanced (though it could indeed be better).

It would be a good idea to adjust some profiles though. Before doing that, you should choose whether you want to follow the book in the representation of the warriors, or the movies. If you want to follow the books (like I do), than that would take a lot more work, as than many more profiles would need to be adjusted (Orcs, Uruks, Easterlings and many more).

Still, if you'd only make new stats for all models that are "wrong" it would take much time. The same also counts for WotR, by the way. The basic ruleset is okay, but it's just that some profiles are not balanced.

Woops (again...), forgot to mention that i'm just planning on remaking the profiles, not the entire rules

Ah, that clears it a bit up! :P
Well, then it'd be doable..

@ Dinadan: yes, I know that forum. I've even registered there, although I've never posted something. It's a shame such a good initiative died, for most of the ideas were good.

Well that site is still usable, it just needs an influx of new members and some active posters to make it work. The original idea was to 'release' the rules as articles on TLA, but we never got beyond writing a few profiles :/

Maybe we can incorporate some of it into the new TLA  (first time I've used that)

Just joking ;)
Though what if we really did create a sort of bridge between our websites to make people more aware of each other's groupes, not that I have a clue how websites and the internet are run but just a suggestion.

I'd help if I knew how...
Once there was fierce competition between all the sites, and it was encouraged as being a way to make the site shine and be better.
Those days are past...
United we stand, divided we fall.

I propose a LOTR SBG Internet Wargames association-majiggy, a union between TLA and the One Ring, and probs the Palantir and any surviving forums/sites that are easily revivable and could contribute actively...

We are too vulnerable alone, but together our voices can be heard....
